Responsibilities


As a mid-level engineer, you will perform project-based engineering tasks under the supervision of the Platform Team Lead. You will have enough experience and knowledge to be a self-starter whilst also receiving guidance from the Senior Engineers in the team. You will also provide operational support as required, and support the team on-call rota when you are up to speed.


  • Ensuring that our infrastructure is well maintained and highly secure

  • Ensuring that our customers get the best quality of service and uptime possible

  • Collaborate and work within the team and also across the wider engineering function

  • Propose the introduction of potential tools and processes to ensure and improve scalability, reliability, availability, security, and performance across our technology stack

  • Identify and propose solutions of any issues to our Senior Platform Engineers

  • Evangelise best practices through effective consultation with your peers

  • Live and breathe a DevOps mindset

  • Engage with the wider teams to automate and improve our tools and processes

  • Write, review, and take responsibility for technical documentation

  • A can do, let’s get it done attitude

  • Not afraid of doing what's right, rather than what's easy

  • 3-5 years in a similar role(s) with real-world practical experience - a significant portion of this will be delivering solutions into the cloud (PaaS/IaaS)

  • Passionate about SRE principles (SLA, SLOs, SLIs, Postmortems etc)

  • Experience working across multiple projects in a professional environment

  • Able to provide constructive feedback through informal conversations and code reviews

  • Thrives working both independently and as part of a team. You are able to take business requirements and translate them into technical solutions

  • Good knowledge of Azure and the Well-Architected Framework

  • A good understanding of developing operational and non-functional concerns (monitoring integration, performance testing, scale, availability and resilience, and security considerations)

  • Very proficient in one of the following - JavaScript/Node.js/Golang - with an aptitude and keenness to learn more

  • Good experience supporting and delivering solutions into a major cloud provider (Azure experience an advantage)

  • Good experience with CI/CD systems (ideally including Circle CI)

  • Good experience with, or knowledge of, systems management solutions and their orchestration - eg. Terraform/Cloudformation

  • A good understanding of Kubernetes and how it works

  • A good understanding of package management solutions for Kubernetes - e.g. Helm

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English

  • Experience with using Git source control in a workplace setting


Desirable - but not essential


  • Good experience using and developing for AWS and other cloud vendors

  • Good experience with Linux - e.g. sysadmin skills

  • Experience with other programming language experience such as JAVA, Python, PHP etc

  • Good understanding of test-driven development and broader testing and QA concerns

  • Good understanding of Agile methodologies

  • An understanding of frontend frameworks and libraries (React, etc.)

  • Experience of writing games or backend game services

  • Database skills including SQL and NOSQL

  • Data analysis/design skills
